Math Team

The purpose of the ICTM Math Contest is to recognize outstanding mathematical achievement, encourage independent study, stimulate interest in mathematics, and provide a wholesome meeting ground for students and teachers of mathematics through academic competition.

Rosary`s Math team participates in Division 2A (enrollment between 400- 999). The team normally consists of between 24-30 students chosen by the team coaches because of their talent in mathematics, their ability to work well with other students, and their commitment to learning. Students work together once a week with their coaches reviewing old tests, learning new material, practicing calculator skills, and mapping out strategies to get more problems correct than their opponents.

There are 5 areas of competition in the ICTM Math Contest:

  1. The Written Competition (Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Precalculus)
  2. Eight-Person Team (Fr/So and Jr/Sr)
  3. Calculating
  4. Two-Person Team (Fr/So and Jr/Sr)
  5. Orals
(Relay Competitions are at State Finals only.)

Students advance from Regional to State with a 1st or 2nd place individually or in a team competition. The entire Team can advance depending on their overall performance.

Rosary`s Math Team also participates in the Marmion Math Conference Invitational as a "fun" preparation for ICTM Regionals. The team members work hard but have fun at the same time working with other students who enjoy the same love of mathematics.
