W.Y.S.E. (Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering)

The WYSE Team consists of 10 students chosen to take the Academic Challenge, which is a battery of tests created by the Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering (WYSE) Program and offered to high school students. Subjects tested are biology, chemistry, English, physics, and mathematics. Students are chosen by Rosary coaches in these five areas and each must take tests in 2 subject areas.

The tests are designed to present a challenge to the state`s brightest students. The test material is drawn from high school senior and college freshmen curricula to present a bridge between secondary and higher education. Tests are written by teams of faculty members at colleges and universities in Illinois and Missouri. Each team produces sets of tests that increase in level of difficulty in a progression from regional, to sectional, to state finals.

Students are required to meet with their Rosary coaches to review course content and prepare to take their tests. Individuals or teams placing 1st or 2nd at each competition advance to the next level of competition. Rosary participates in Division 700 level (301 - 700 students enrolled.)
