Rosary Girls Place FIRST in Math & Science Competition
Rosary High School`s WYSE (Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering) team competed in the Regional competition held on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at Waubonsee Community College. Up against Aurora Central Catholic High School, Marmion Academy, Kaneland High School and Sandwich High School, Rosary earned FIRST PLACE and will advance to the sectional competition on March 6, 2012 at Northern Illinois University.
Rosary`s team members include seniors Kelsey Arnold, Devon Bavery, Sam Duarte, Sara Helm, Melissa Lifka, Emmy Popovich, Kallie Renfus, Rachel Romano, Melissa Shaw and juniors Jesika
Barmanbek, Courtney Cox, Celine Italia, Colleen Madlinger, Amy Seraphin.
The individual winners for each subject in the Regional Competition were:
1st place in Mathematics - Emmy Popovich
1st place in Chemistry - Colleen Madlinger
1st place in Computer Science - Courtney Cox
2nd place in Chemistry - Jesika Barmanbek
2nd place in English - Sam Duarte
3rd place in English - Melissa Lifka
WYSE, based out of the University of Illinois, offers an annual Academic Challenge competition to its high school members in Illinois and Missouri. This consists of a competitive series of tests that are aimed to challenge the brightest students. All of the test questions are taken from senior high school and college freshman level curricula. Students compete as individuals and as a team with their schools.
