Rosary/Marmion Spring Service Day - April 5th 2008

The Rosary/Marmion Spring Service Day was held on April 5, 2008.

Present were 41 Rosary students, 32 Marmion students and 21 adults. This amazing force of 94 shocked the staff at Feed My Starving Children by packing a total of 376 boxes of food!

The average group will pack about one box per person in a two-hour shift. So the expectation was to pack about 90-100 boxes per shift. The Rosary/Marmion group out did that average in their first shift by packing 146 boxes and then rose to the challenge of breaking the all time high record during the next shift. The highest previous number in a two-hour period was 160 but we surpassed that by packing 230! Woe to those who follow in our footsteps!

This many boxes translates into 81,216 meals
. Which most importantly amounts to 222 starving children being fed for an entire year. SEVEN orphanages in a place like Haiti will have the food they need for the year!

Our students not only gave up a Saturday night to do something productive but they made the most of the time they had. What a wonderful example of living according to the principles set forth in both the Rosary and the Marmion Traditions.

Community Service Day - Saturday, October 20

View More Photos!!!

October 20, 2007 was a beautiful warm fall day. 128 students from Marmion and Rosary came together, and along with the help of nearly 40 adults went out to make a difference in our surrounding community. The students and adults were divided into 12 work groups and visited a total of 16 work sites.
Three individual families who have special circumstances welcomed a crew to complete their “honey-do lists” for the coming winter. Crews weeded, planted, cleaned and sorted. Crews visited three area senior care centers: Provena Care Center, Brighton Gardens, and Michealsens. They either created fall crafts with the residents, played bingo, or cleaned vans and equipment. The Reuse-It Center in Batavia put the extra hands to good use in completing the tasks to close the center. This group worked hard dismantling equipment and cleaning the store. The Dominican Sisters at St. Peter’s School in Aurora always have something in mind for our students. This time, they toured the parish rectory and convent as they moved things from one building to another. The Kane County Forest Preserve offered a challenge to some of our seniors who were asked to take down a fence. Only upon arrival did they realize the fencing had some barbed wire. With good cheer the group completed the task and enjoyed the forest preserve.
The Society of St. Vincent De Paul’s Deja Vu Thrift Shop had mounds of clothing that needed sorting. This challenge was met by a group of eager to help juniors. Our friends, the sisters at the Servants of the Holy Heart of Mary, always find a number of helpful but entertaining ways in which our students can assist them. It is a joy to work in the retreat center’s picturesque wooded acres. The parishioners at St. Peter’s Church in Geneva appreciated the youthful hands that removed and cleaned many of the Right to Life crosses that were on display on their church grounds. Lazarus House, a homeless shelter in Batavia, had some relief from maintaining the grounds of the buildings they operate. The crew sent there weeded, raked, and cleaned up the lawns around their building. Similar work was done at the Batavia Interfaith Food Pantry. Some students had the privilege of bowling with the Fox Valley Special Recreation Program. Students assisted the bowlers and offered encouragement and friendship to the participants. One group of freshman students worked at Marmion and constructed 3 sets of beanbag toss games. The beanbags themselves were made by a small group of Rosary seniors beforehand. The completed games were donated to two senior care centers and the Lazarus House. Groups who completed their assignments early were asked to make Christmas cards for those imprisoned at Dwight Correctional Facility.
The Rosary Parent’s Auxiliary wishes to thank all of the students and adults who sacrificed a Saturday afternoon for the service of others. Given the opportunity to carry out the Corporal Works of Mercy, the Rosary and Marmion students seem to rise to the occasion and display what it means to serve.

The Party 2007

Wow! What an event! Over 430 students got together to enjoy the late afternoon on August 25th at the 2nd annual Party sponsored by the Rosary Parents’ Auxiliary. The Marmion courtyard was filled with students talking, laughing and getting to know each other. With pizza, drinks and brownies, live music and an assortment of games to play, everyone had a wonderful time. Over 30 Marmion and Rosary parent volunteers manned registration desks and food tables, once again making this event a fantastic start to the new school year.

Mothers` Dessert Night 2007

On Thursday August 30th, approximately 60 moms gathered in the Rosary cafeteria for an evening of great food and wonderful conversation. The dessert tables overflowed with all sorts of delicacies home baked by our wonderful volunteers. Hosted by Kim O’Neil and Therese Schaefer, our Parent Program Auxiliary Chairs, the evening was filled with moms getting to know each other. Sister Patricia said a few wonderful words about the role of mothers in the lives our daughters. Our Parent Auxiliary President, Jeanne Clark, provided the audience with great information on all Parent Auxiliary events and activities. Lisa Tonner invited everyone to “have a ball” at the upcoming Candlelight Ball on Saturday, September 15th. Kim and Therese gave out wonderful gifts for our raffle winners. When the evening was over, it seems many moms did not want to leave. Many thanks to Kim and Therese, our Parent Program chairs, and all our wonderful volunteers for another evening to remember.
