We begin our day at Rosary as we begin all things: In the name of the Father, And of the Son, And of the Holy Spirit.
Today the church celebrates a birthday! It is the day we set aside to remember the birthday of Mary, the mother of Jesus.
The same Mary who would give birth to the savior of the world undoubtedly gathered with her family to celebrate the day she was born….just like you and me.
Around the birthday dinner table her family would remember from year to year how she had grown…..just like you and me.
Perhaps Mary made a birthday wish that gave voice to her dreams. And around the time she celebrated her 14th birthday, she made a decision that would forever affect you and me……..she said "yes" to God`s invitation to bring Jesus into the world.
More than 2000 Mary birthdays have past……as we gather around her birthday celebration today she continues to invite us to say yes.
And so we pray
For mothers everywhere, that we will remember they also began their life`s journey as a little girl—that we will honor the dreams of our mothers, we pray LORD HEAR OUR PRAYER
For mothers who are expecting a baby, may the cradle of their womb nourish and protect their infant until it is time for his or her birthday, we pray LORD HEAR OUR PRAYER
For all of us, that our birthday gift to Mary will be our "yes" to preaching the message of her son with our lives, we pray LORD HEAR OUR PRAYER
For those who celebrate a birthday today, we pray LORD HEAR OUR PRAYER
For visitors to our school, may they discover that our Dominican school is a place where we preach with our lives, we pray LORD HEAR OUR PRAYER
For the prayers written in our school prayer book and the prayers we hold in the quiet of our hearts, we Pray LORD HEAR OUR PRAYER
We ask you to make our day holy as we sign ourselves with the sign of our faith and the words of our Dominican blessing:
May God, Creator bless us,
May God, Redeemer heal us,
May the Holy Spirit enlighten us and give us all we need.
