Julia Manning ('22) Graduates, Earns Capstone Award at Flagler College
Majored in Coastal Environmental Science and minored in Sustainability Studies
Rosary graduate Julia Manning ('22) earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Coastal Environmental Science with a minor in Sustainability Studies at the Flagler College graduation ceremony in St. Augustine, Florida, in May.
In addition, Julia and a team of her peers earned the Best Symposium Group Presentation Award during the College's annual Science Symposium Capstone Presentations, held as a culminating event of the greater Science Week. Selected by faculty, the Best Symposium Group Presentation Award recognizes the top capstone project among graduating seniors for excellence in science research, presentation, and teamwork.

Julia and her team were recognized for their project, "Catch This Sick Flow: The Difference Between Aeromonas hydrophila Presence in Flow-Restricted and Flow-Unrestricted Bodies of Water in Saint Augustine." The project demonstrated strong analytical thinking, effective collaboration, and the ability to communicate complex scientific concepts to a broad audience.
The Science Symposium serves as a culminating academic experience for graduating seniors, providing an opportunity to present their research, engage with the campus community, and celebrate scholarly achievement. In total, the Flagler College Class of 2026 was awarded 689 degrees: 515 Bachelor of Arts, 13 Bachelor of Fine Arts, and 143 Bachelor of Science, along with 7 Master of Arts and 11 Master of Public Administration.
Experiential learning is a defining feature of the Flagler experience, with 92 percent of graduates participating in hands-on opportunities during their time at the College. This commitment transforms St. Augustine's Historic Coast into a dynamic classroom and living laboratory, as Julia experienced.
