Math Team Competes at State

Rosary's Math Team competed at State on Saturday, April 22, at Illinois State University in Normal. The team placed 21st overall despite participating in only half of the possible events.

Here are the results:

Algebra 1 Team - 17th place
Lena Collette, Claire Hlavacek, Ariyana Nieckula, Callie Vallort, Cyanna Watkins

Geometry Team - 11th place
Fiona Guzniczak, Samantha Rangel, Becky Rentz, Haley Salispan, Isabella Wojtowicz

Precalculus Team - 13th place
Reegan Barr, Josie Jarmuz, Emma LaPorte, Lauren Audrey Paschoud, Ellie Schubert, Maggie Seraphin

Freshman/Sophomore 8 Person Team -  16th place
Lena Collette, Claire Hlavacek, Ariyana Nieckula, Callie Vallort, Cyanna Watkins, Fiona Guzniczak, Samantha Rangel, Becky Rentz

Freshman/Sophomore 2 Person Team - 13th place
Lena Collette, Isabella Wojtowicz

Overall: 21st place

"Placing 21st overall is a great accomplishment considering we only had students participating  in half the possible events," Mrs. Karen Wollwert said. Math team moderators are Mrs. Wollwert, Mrs. Sarah Hoying, Mrs. Ramya Ramana, Mr. Ben Yoon, and Mr. Kevin Steder. Mrs. Wollwert and Mrs, Hoying are Rosary graduates.

The girls were surprised by a visit from Spanish teacher Mrs. Julie Jeppesen who was at ISU for her son's performance in the ISU Jazz Festival.

Following the competition, the team dined at a Korean restaurant owned by a friend of Math teacher Mr. Yoon.
